At the core of GreenCoat PLX Pro BT is high-strength 0.6mm steel substrate that is heavily galvanised. It is this high content Zinc galvanised layer that helps offer moisture protection even in harsh environments including coastal locations. The zinc coating protects the steel from corrosion in 2 ways:
1. It is a protective layer keeping oxygen and water away from the steel.
2. It acts as a cathodic protection - the zinc will sacrifice itself and react to form protective components and block corrosion processes at cut edges or in cases of damage through the zinc coating.
On top of this is a tough scratch-resistant paint layer that helps offer a protective barrier against moisture and Oxygen.
Organic coating of zinc coated sheet takes place in a carefully controlled continuous process. The core coil is cleaned, pre-treated chemically and the paint is then applied with a roller in two-stages, primer and top-coat. The coating is then quenched in the oven between the two coats of paint.
The excellent paint properties of GreenCoat PLX Pro BT pre-painted sheet steel lend themselves to roll forming of trapezoidal profiles and the hand working of "Long Strip" roofing as they require more advanced shaping and forming.
